Bootcade — A native FinalBurn Neo launcher & ROM manager for Linux

Hi everyone,

I'd like to introduce Bootcade, a project I've been working on around FinalBurn Neo.

Bootcade is a native Linux launcher and ROM manager designed to make large FBNeo collections easier to browse, maintain and actually use.

The project started from a simple need: I wanted a clean way to browse the entire FinalBurn Neo library, see exactly what was missing or broken in my ROM collection, repair incomplete sets, and launch games without having to use several different tools.

It has grown quite a bit since then.


Game library & launcher

Bootcade provides a fast and searchable interface for the FBNeo catalogue, including:

• List and cover views
• Instant search
• Filters by system, manufacturer, year, orientation, aspect ratio and game type
• Original / Clone / Hack / Homebrew / Bootleg / Prototype filtering
• Favorites and play history
• Automatic artwork
• Controller profiles
• Direct launching through FinalBurn Neo
  

ROM auditing & rebuilding

Bootcade also includes its own ROM management tools.

ROMs are checked against the official FBNeo DAT definitions using their actual CRC32, rather than simply trusting filenames or archive metadata.

It can:

• Detect missing, incorrect or corrupted ROMs
• Find wrongly named ROMs
• Audit complete collections
• Rebuild incomplete sets using ROMs already available elsewhere in your library
• Import archives recursively
• Detect duplicate ROMs
• Generate missing-ROM and audit reports
• Work with ZIP, 7z, RAR and TAR archives
  

Your existing library can remain read-only: rebuilt sets are written separately to an outbox.


Online FBNeo Catalog

Bootcade also includes a public online FBNeo catalog:

The catalog is automatically updated every day from the latest FinalBurn Neo DAT files, so it stays closely synchronized with FBNeo development.

You can browse and search the complete catalog directly from your browser, filter games by system or release type, inspect DAT information, and easily identify games with Highscore support.

The latest DAT files are also available directly from the catalog.


Linux & SteamOS

Bootcade is built specifically for Linux and is currently available as:

• AppImage
• Debian / Ubuntu .deb package
• Flatpak for SteamOS and other distributions
• Portable tarball
  

The project also provides an up-to-date FBNeo Linux build, making it easy to get a recent version of the emulator working together with Bootcade.


Still actively developed

Bootcade is still under active development, and there are many more things I'd like to add.

One idea I'm currently exploring is an achievement system, with challenges and goals that could be unlocked while playing supported games.

I also want the project to evolve around what people actually use and need, so I'm very open to feature requests, ideas and suggestions from the community.

If there is something you would like to see in Bootcade, please feel free to suggest it. I can't promise that every idea will be implemented, but I'm always interested in hearing what other FBNeo users would find useful.

There is still a lot I want to build, so Bootcade will continue to evolve.

Bootcade 1.0.18 is now available!

Hi everyone,

A new version of Bootcade is now available:

Highscore support

One of the main new features is Highscore support.

Highscore tracking can be enabled from the Bootcade settings and is currently available for a growing list of supported games.

When playing a supported game, there is no score to enter manually and no screenshot to upload.

Bootcade reads the game's score table directly from memory and detects what actually changed during your session.

The list of supported games will continue to grow over time.


New Online Leaderboard

Along with Highscore support, a new public Bootcade Leaderboard is now available:

It currently includes:

• Latest scores
• Most played games
• Longest sessions
• Player rankings
• Player locations
  

This is only the beginning. More games will progressively receive Highscore support, and new ranking types can be added depending on what each game makes possible.


FBNeo DAT Changes — Quick reminder

Just a quick reminder that the DAT Changes page is also available in the Bootcade online catalog:

The page has recently been refreshed and is a useful way to keep an eye on the evolution of the official FinalBurn Neo DAT files.

It lets you quickly see which games have been:

• Added
• Updated
• Removed
  

Changes are grouped by system and displayed from newest to oldest.

Since the Bootcade catalog is updated daily from the latest FBNeo DAT files, it's a convenient way to follow recent changes in the FBNeo catalog.

Bootcade is still actively developed, and these features will continue to evolve.

The list of games supporting Highscores will keep growing, and I already have more ideas for future features and improvements.
